The Role of Information Literacy in Supporting Scientific Research among Postgraduate Students at the Faculty of Education, Azzaytuna University: A Field Study

Abstract

This study aims at identifying the role of information literacy in supporting scientific research among graduate students at the Faculty of Education, Azzaytuna University. The study used a descriptive (analytical survey) approach and relied on a questionnaire to collect field data. It reached a set of results, the most important of which is that most of the study sample consisted of graduate students from the Department of Libraries and Information, representing 50% of the total sample. Regarding the stage of study, the results confirmed that all students were studying at the master's level, and that most members of the study sample had good computer skills. The results also demonstrated that most of the study sample would use the Internet and rely on it in the educational process. Among the most important recommendations: working to spread information literacy through scientific seminars and conferences, to activate its role among graduate students in order to raise their efficiency and familiarize them with their scientific skills. Working to increase awareness of the importance of information literacy, given its significant role in confronting the challenges of the digital age, working to develop cultural and research skills among graduate students at the college by teaching a course on scientific research methods as part of the academic curriculum.
